PART 2: THE WOMAN IN MY BASEMENT KNEW A SECRET I HAD FORGOTTEN…
I stood at the top of the basement stairs, unable to move.
“Evelyn?” the woman called again. “Please… I know you’re up there.”
Her voice was identical to mine.
Not similar.
Identical.
I tightened my grip on the old key Richard had given me and slowly descended the stairs.
At the bottom, I found a small room filled with dusty boxes, old photographs, and newspaper clippings covering the walls.
And sitting in the corner was a woman.
She looked exactly like me.
Same face. Same eyes. Same small scar above her left eyebrow.
But she looked twenty years younger.
She stood up, tears streaming down her cheeks.
“Oh, my God,” she whispered. “He actually brought you back.”
I stumbled backward.
“Who are you?”
She stared at me as if the answer should have been obvious.
“I’m Evelyn Carter.”
