Ashley protested that they were already legally married, but Daniel told her he’d deal with the legal process later. His decision was final.
Instead of apologizing, Ashley complained about how much money she’d spent making the wedding perfect.
Daniel looked at her for a long moment.
“Apparently, not enough to pay Grandma.”
Ashley had no answer. She gathered her skirts and stormed through the barn doors, her veil fluttering behind her as all 150 guests watched in stunned silence.
The cake stood beside my table, still beautiful except for the huge crater Daniel had made in its center.
