“Will someone tell me what’s going on?”
I explained that Ashley had promised to pay Grandma for the ingredients and her labor, then refused once the cake was finished.
Daniel frowned.
“What? Ashley told me Grandma was making it as a wedding gift.”
He turned toward his bride.
“Is that true?”
Ashley folded her arms.
“Fine, she mentioned wanting money at first. But you don’t charge family for a wedding cake! Your sister is making a huge spectacle over nothing.”
I explained that Grandma hadn’t wanted to spoil the wedding, even after Ashley laughed at her for asking for money she needed for medication.
Daniel stared at his wife, hoping she’d deny it or apologize.
Instead, Ashley rolled her eyes.
“She’s not going to die because she has to wait a few days for her medicine.”
Daniel’s expression changed completely.
He looked toward Grandma, who sat quietly with her hands folded, desperately trying not to show how hurt she was.
