53 Years After Our Wedding, My Husband Confessed That He Hadn’t Chosen Me by Chance the Day We First Met. And When He Told Me Who Had Really Sent Him to Me, I Was Left Speechless…

Tears streamed down my cheeks.

“But why did my mother send you to me?”

Robert took my hand.

“Before she died, Elizabeth managed to tell your mother everything. Your mother was afraid that if you started asking questions, you would be threatened too. She knew I had tried to help Elizabeth, so she asked me to visit the bookstore from time to time to make sure you were safe.”

“And she paid you for that?”

“She gave me a hundred dollars, saying it was for travel expenses. I tried to give it back, but she refused to take it.”

I looked at the old banknote.

“So you came to see me not because you were falling in love with me, but because you were watching me?”

Robert nodded.

“On the first day, yes.”

That answer hurt more than anything else.

“And when did you decide you wanted to marry me?”
