A few months earlier, Colin had allowed a friend to leave a truck in my driveway while traveling. Nobody asked me first.
Another time, he invited friends to dinner at my house without telling me. I bought extra groceries and cleaned because they were already coming.
Each incident had seemed too small to fight about.
But they all followed the same pattern.
Colin decided I would probably be okay with something.
I objected.
He explained why I shouldn’t object.
Eventually I became tired and said it was fine.
That night, I called my sister, Aaron.
She agreed Colin had crossed a line, but then she asked whether I could let Vanessa stay for a month while she searched for another room.
“Why is that my month?” I asked.
“I’m just trying to stop this from becoming bigger than it needs to be.”
I ended the call soon afterward.
