A short time later, his uncle passed away.
When the family gathered for the reading of the will, everyone anticipated a straightforward distribution of the estate. His uncle’s children each received an inheritance of $40,000.
Then came the nephew’s turn.
Instead of money or valuables, he was given nothing more than an old, worn-out coat.
The room erupted with laughter. His cousins joked that their father had managed to insult someone one last time, even after his death. The nephew accepted the coat without arguing, although he couldn’t understand why it had been left to him.
For the next two days, it remained untouched.
Eventually, curiosity got the better of him. Before deciding whether to donate or throw it away, he reached into the pockets to make sure nothing had been left behind.
Inside one of them, he discovered a sealed envelope.
The letter inside had been written by his uncle.
