It all started a month before Jenna’s wedding.
Our daughter, Sophie, had been counting down the days since her aunt invited her to participate in the ceremony.
At eight years old, she thought being a flower girl was one of the most exciting things that could happen.
She practiced walking through our hallway while holding a pretend basket.
She asked whether she should smile at the guests.
She wanted to know what color her dress would be.
And almost every evening, she reminded us how many days remained until the wedding.
Watching her excitement made me happy.
I loved seeing how much the invitation meant to her.
Then, four weeks before the ceremony, Jenna called me.
Her tone was strangely formal.
“Hey, I wanted to let you know we’ve made a few changes to the wedding.”
I assumed she was calling about the schedule.
