THE PRENUP
Naomi slid another document across the table.
“Claire Bennett is filing for annulment and emergency civil protection.”
Adrian stared at her.
Naomi continued.
“The marital asset shield and certain confidentiality provisions contained in your prenuptial agreement are subject to invalidation under the abuse clause triggered by documented violence.”
Thomas turned toward his son.
“What clause?”
That almost made me smile.
Adrian looked stunned.
He had never read his own agreement as carefully as I had.
Eleanor appeared in the doorway.
Her pearls trembled against her throat.
For once—
she had nothing to say.
PART 3 — 10:00 A.M.
My cursor hovered over one button.
SEND.
Adrian sat across from me.
Without wedding lights and champagne, he looked less like the charming heir I had married and more like a frightened man who had confused cruelty with authority.
“Claire.”
His voice softened.
“Please don’t be dramatic.”
I nearly laughed.
Twelve hours earlier, he had promised before hundreds of guests to honor me.
That morning, he slapped me because his mother disliked breakfast.
And now—
he wanted restraint.
Naomi checked her watch.
“It’s time.”
I pressed the button.
No dramatic explosion followed.
Only the quiet sound of an email leaving my computer.
Then Blackwell BioSystems began collapsing.
