But I wasn’t that woman anymore.
“No, thank you. I have everything I need.”
Callum seemed to understand what I meant.
He didn’t ask if he could stay for dinner.
He didn’t head toward our bedroom.
He didn’t assume that spending time with Kieran entitled him to spend time with me.
A moment later, our son came running back, waving his jacket excitedly.
“Mommy! Daddy says we’re getting pizza!”
I smiled.
“That sounds wonderful. Have a great time, sweetheart.”
Callum opened the front door.
Then he paused and looked back.
“So… what happens between us now?”
I held his gaze.
“For now, you keep your promises to Kieran. I’ll decide what comes next for me.”
He nodded quietly.
Then he walked outside with our son.
When the door closed, I stood in the hallway for a moment.
The house was peaceful.
But for the first time in weeks, the silence didn’t feel lonely.
