Just a young man who suddenly looked much younger than twenty-two.
He stopped several feet away.
“Ms. Bennett.”
I waited.
He swallowed.
“I was wrong.”
I said nothing.
“I thought you were scared of me.”
“I wasn’t.”
“I know.”
He looked at the ground.
“I thought if I embarrassed you, everybody would respect me.”
I nodded.
“That is not respect.”
“I know that now.”
He took another breath.
“I want to apologize.”
“You already did.”
His eyebrows rose.
“When?”
“When you finally understood what you were doing.”
He nodded.
Then looked toward my house.
“Your son…”
“He’s inside.”
“I owe him an apology too.”
“You do.”
Logan turned toward the street.
Several neighbors were watching from their windows.
He looked at them.
Then at his father.
Then back at me.
“I deleted the video.”
Grant looked surprised.
“All of it?”
“All of it.”
I nodded.
“Good.”
Logan started to leave.
