“With what money?”
No answer.
His entire lifestyle existed because I financed it.
Then Margaret said something unexpected.
“Beth, before we continue, there’s something else.”
She placed a sealed envelope in front of me.
I recognized the handwriting instantly.
Michael’s.
I stopped breathing for a moment.
“What is that?”
Margaret hesitated.
“Something Michael instructed me to keep unless a very specific condition occurred.”
Greg went still.
“What condition?”
Margaret looked straight at him.
“If Greg ever attempted to borrow against, sell, transfer or claim ownership of Willow & Hart.”
Nobody moved.
I stared at her.
“Michael knew?”
Margaret slowly nodded.
My pulse quickened.
“Knew what?”
She pushed the envelope toward me.
“He knew this might happen.”
My fingers shook as I opened it.
Inside was a letter.
Beth,
If you are reading this, then I was right about something I prayed I was wrong about.
I stopped.
My eyes blurred.
