He stared at her.

“I want every employee’s contract reviewed,” he said. “Effective immediately, nobody who works here will ever be placed in a position where they feel they owe me personal loyalty.”
The maid watched silently.
He continued.
“And her final paycheck should include every hour she’s worked, every benefit she’s entitled to, and three months of severance.”
She immediately shook her head.
“I don’t need three months.”
“I know.”
He looked at her.
“That’s why I’m offering it.”
She studied him carefully.
