Fifteen minutes before leaving for the airport, my 6-year-old daughter clung to my neck and whispered: “When you travel, mom puts something in my juice and then films me.”

That was not weakness.

It was protection.

Marcus wanted Lily safe permanently, not trapped for years inside a messy dispute over which adult should be believed.

So he swallowed his anger and did the slow, patient work correctly.

A dramatic confrontation might have made him feel better for an afternoon.

A meticulous legal case could keep Lily safe for the rest of her life.

He chose his daughter’s safety over his own catharsis.

Chapter 10 — Two More Episodes

There was a second recording.

In it, Lily paced around the living room, visibly agitated and distressed, while Sarah followed her with a phone raised and recording.

“Come on, Lily,” Sarah’s voice said, pleasant and coaxing.

“Let’s make sure Daddy sees how you behave.”

The child was crying and asking her to stop.

Sarah continued filming.

Marcus forced himself to watch the entire recording.

He believed he owed it to his daughter to know exactly what had happened while he had been traveling and assuming she was safe.
