Amelia Grant was already in the back booth, hair tied back, no makeup, a legal pad open in front of her. She had the look of someone who had learned to sleep in fragments and think in storms.
Mitchell slid into the seat across from her and placed the folder between them.
“Before I show you,” he said quietly, “you need to understand something. I don’t know what this means. I don’t know if it proves anything.”
Amelia opened the folder.
The moment she saw the photograph, her face changed.
Not with surprise.
With recognition.
Mitchell leaned forward. “You know this picture?”
“No,” she said. “But I know that cabin.”
“How?”
She pulled a file from her bag and flipped through it until she found a page marked with pink tabs. “Martin Keller owned a small property near Lake Briar. It wasn’t listed in the trial exhibits because the prosecution said it had no relevance. I requested the property records after Gavin mentioned Martin keeping private notes.”
